Eelgrass seed maturation at The Kattegatcenter

At the Kattegatcenter, eelgrass shoots with seeds are hanging in nets from the bridge in the lagoon until the seeds have matured and are ready for research in the project NOVAGRASS.

Eelgrass flowering in 2015
Eelgrass is a seed plant which flowers and sheds pollen like grass on land. The flowering took place about 3 weeks later than usual in 2015. The cold spring implied colder water than usual, postponing the flowering and pollination. The harvest was carried out in late July – about one month later than in 2014, where the harvest was already carried out in late June due to the warm spring that year.
