The NOVAGRASS project has a total budget of DKK 26.9 million over five years. The project has been granted DKK 14.1 million from the Danish Council for Strategic Research and the remaining DKK 12.8 mil-lion will be self-financed by the project partners.
The Danish Council for Strategic Research consists of a Board and a varying number of programme com-missions and seeks to ensure that strategic research in Denmark is organised to meet the challenges facing Danish society. The aim is to ensure Denmark’s position as a frontrunner in terms of welfare, wealth and science in the short and long term.
Strategic research is conducted in a problem-oriented context, not a discipline-oriented context. This means that strategic research often spans several disciplines and is carried out in a matrix organisation across public and private institutions where disciplines or subjects are included as required. The Council therefore seeks to enhance the interaction between publicly funded research and the rest of society – i.e. privately funded research, NGOs, businesses and public institutions.
Strategic research will usually have a strong international dimension with Danish researchers working closely together with the best international researchers. Another key objective is for strategic research to contribute to research education and thus ensure a positive development of research communities in Denmark.
